Here at the Bashful Giraffe Early Learning Center, we encourage our children to learn inside AND outside the classroom. True learning is an experience, not a set of facts or rules. Our children are given multiple opportunities to experience genuine learning at the early learning center. We emphasize hands on learning even within our infant room, toddler room, our preschool classrooms and also our school aged children programs. This approach also exists within the families of our staff members. We also teach our children and grandchildren to appreciate the value of learning.
“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” – Clay P. Bedford
One of our staff members, Marilynn Duncan is encouraging her grandson to experience learning in the kitchen. His love for food and cooking has allowed him many opportunities to experience cooking with a hands-on learning approach. Marilynn’s grandson, Duncan does not spend countless hours reading cookbooks; rather, he spends his time practicing his cooking skills at home. Duncan is currently competing in an online children’s cooking competition through Uncle Ben’s Rice. He not only learned how to prepare Chicken Parmesan, but his video is an instructional video, so Duncan can teach the viewers how to prepare his recipe. Please vote for Duncan as he tries to take his love for food and learning to the next round of the competition in New York!
You can vote once a day to encourage Duncan on his cooking adventure. Open the voting webpage and search for the name Cindy (Duncan’s mom). Watch his short 3 minute video on his Chicken Parmesan recipe! Also, we encourage you to click on one of the links below If you would like to encourage your own children at home to pursue extracurricular activities like baking, cooking, independence skills, or sewing. All of us learn by doing, so start experience learning together with your child at home.
